Dish on the Road: Houston - Cafe Adobe

Cafe Adobe is a cute little Mexican food place that we found in the River Oaks part of Houston. We were driving around looking for the perfect spot, and happened upon this place...which worked out pretty well!

So this menu seemed to contain all of the traditional items...margaritas, queso, guac, fajitas...they brought two kinds of salsa, which I always appreciate. The green was a creamy avocado spice blend. The red was just your traditional salsa. Either way, a delicious dip!!

The margaritas were tall and ice cold, garnished with lime. The menu brandished the title of best margaritas in Houston...and they were nice and crisp.

The main dishes were traditional...served with rice and beans. They were delicious!!

(Tacos al Carbon)

(Adobe House Salad)

(Soft Chicken Tacos)

But the best item on the menu happened to be their signature dish: The Avocado Adobe.
This was an avocado half, filled with shredded chicken and cheese, lightly breaded, fried for a second...and then topped with ranchero sauces. The result was amazing.
Chuy's makes a dish like this and they put it on special Wednesday nights. If you can't get to Houston anytime soon and this tickles your fancy...Chuy's version is also pretty decent!!

(This picture really doesn't do it justice...it was GOOD!!)

Texas is awash with mediocre Mexican dining spots. I am pleased to report that this is not one of them!! Click here to view the full menu!!
