Dish on the Road: Houston - Irma's Restaurant

The final stop for the Houston trip was lunch at a little place over near Minute Maid Park. This southwestern style cafe had a large green sign on the side of the building advertising Irma's.

We were immediately seated, the wait staff and host could not have been friendlier!

To begin, I ordered their "world famous lemonade"...it was a delicious concoction of sweet and tart, with pieces of real fruit to garnish the top.
With unlimited refills, this was the first good choice of the day!!

The wait staff then put chips and salsa on our table...again, two different salsas. These salsas were HOT!! but good. The chips were a mix of red, orange, blue, and regular tortilla chips, slightly warm and perfectly salty.

After we placed our orders, the waitress brought around borracho beans for everyone. These had a heavy cumin taste, and while they weren't my favorite to eat with a spoon, they worked out well on a chip!!

We split the lunch combination plate.
There is no written menu and the bad thing about verbally delivering the menu, for me at least, is that I can't always remember everything! So...the last thing the waitress talked about was the combination plate that had a beef fajita, a cheese enchilada, rice, beans, and a shrimp taco. Sue and I split this delicious combo, and it ended up being more than enough!
Irma's does charge a $3.50 split fee, but it was well worth it, as there is no way one person should be able to eat all that was provided!!

This place was a find and I highly recommend making your way downtown to check it out if you find yourself in Houston!! A wonderful blend of flavors and spices, decently priced menu...and unsurpassed lemonade all made my visit and very enjoyable one!
