Hully and Mo's

So I tried this joint out last night with a girlfriend from B-school. It is in the quadrangle where Riccardi's used to be. They have changed the inside up a bit. It is all dark wood and has a sports bar feel to it.
We each had a glass of wine and a sandwich. My friend had the grilled chicken sandwich with french fries. It looked great! I had the veggie sandwich with french fries. It came with avocados, sprouts, and cucumbers. toasted on whole wheat. It was alright, but rather small. After dinner we shared the tiramisu cheesecake and it was delish. Overall it was decent for bar food. Fun atmosphere and valet guy said that Bret and Mike come in all the time after games. I probably should have planned that better!!

Taco Joint

So Jason and I were craving some breakfast tacos this morning (perhaps last night's beverage consumption was responsible...not sure).
We headed down to Gaston and Peak St. to a fine establishment called The Taco Joint.
The establishment may be newish, but in some form, this place is affiliated with Chuy's.
Their breakfast tacos are delic!!

I had the State Fair Combo, which is embarrassing to order. I'll admit, I felt like I should have stretch pants on to order the re-fried beans, potato, cheese, bacon, scramb. egg combo, fat-a** combo. It was so good, though, my shame soon abated.

Jas had two built-to-order tacos that looked like the right combo of meat, cheese, eggs, and grease. We split chips and salsa with a side of jalapeno ranch....all to the tune of $15.
It was a crowded joint...and for that part of Dallas, I'd have to say the parking lot was full of some high dollar brands!

I highly recommend trying out this little spot for breakfast.
Make sure and check their site for hours, though: http://thetacojoint.com

Capriccio

Matt and I decided to visit this restaurant on Saturday night. I had a coupon for 20% off of the entire check, and it was written up in Texas monthly, so we headed out. The restaurant is located on Alpha right by the tollway. It is a cute place with little white lights. When you walk in there is a bar to your left and a banquet room to your right. Then the main dinning room is behind that, and I think there is a smaller party room behind that. Cute place!

The waiter was VERY nice and we had great service. Matt started off with a Stella, and they brought out bread with butter and an olive oil mix. The butter tasted weird, but the olive oil was really good. I ordered polenta with veil sauce and a side salad and Matt ordered ricotta and spinach stuffed chicken and another Stella.

My polenta was very dry and not that tasty. I had to cover it in salt and pepper. My salad was covered in dressing and I couldn't taste anything else. Matt's chicken was VERY dry and not tasty. He liked his side pasta and vegetables.

Overall, nice service and atmosphere, but not so good food.

Cowboy Chow

I did a return visit to Cowboy Chow this weekend.
The first time I went there was with Jason. We split the brisket sloppy joe and the Cowboy nachos.

Both were very, very delicious, and I swore I would come back. At that time, the owner came over and talked with us for a bit: he also owns Twisted Root Burger AND he is going to be featured on The Food Network in July!!!

This time I went with my newly married BF, Dr. JP.
We went at 11:00 on Saturday and decided to have brunch.

Lunch was good.
Brunch was fantastic.
It depends on what you're after!!

Here is a link to the menu: http://www.cowboychow.net
You can judge for yourself.

When JP and I went for brunch, we started out with cokes. The cokes in this joint are old school -served in tall glass bottles. Jason calls them "Mexican Cokes" because, when imported, they are made with real sugar cane and are extra thirst quenching. :) You have to pop your cap off using the bottle opener found mounted on the wall at every table. I like to call this: Charm!

We then ordered the fry bread. It was salty, but came with a side of clover honey for dipping. Very nice savory-sweet combo.

I was specifically after the French Toast with Drunken Blackberry Syrup. It was well worth the return visit. The French Toast must have been made with Texas Toast because the slices were what I would like to call, thick and hearty. In between the four half-slices, they placed a big scoop of whipped butter. The temp of the French Toast caused the butter to melt into the blackberry syrup: a little slice of Heaven!!
This is pretty much the best breakfast I have had in a long, long time.
Jen had the Muchaca and it looked pretty tasty, too. I'm afraid that I was too busy snarfing the F.T. to ask her about it.

We finished our meal with the chocolate chip ice cream sandwich. It was one chocolate chip cookie, one chocolate cookie with chocolate chips, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream between the two. At this point, I was on sugar overload.

I would go back to this place in the blink of an eye.
It has real personality and a great menu that features quite a bit of brisket...but it is good brisket, so that is a-okay! Yee-haw!~

Jason's favorite item: the real sugar cane coke they serve - you remove the cap yourself:
