Chef's Gallery

(Focaccia served at Chef's Gallery)

After reading the review of Chef's Gallery posted on Pegasus News, we decided to this neat cooking school experiment at The Art Institute of Dallas.

We found it easily, parking was good. White linen table cloths and candles greeted us. We were seated by a friendly hostess, and made sure to sit close enough to the windows to watch the chefs at work.

The Amuse-Bouche was presented. It was a shrimp wrapped in noodles. It had a great flavor, so we were all excited about getting started!

The menu featured a chef's special. Every Friday they do a kind of "around the world" plate where the chef on tap creates a menu from a specific country. We happened to land on Italy, which was great news! The three course dinner was $15, but you could still order off the menu (which listed pork chops, steak, etc...).

While we were figuring out what we wanted, we ordered up a plate of hummus.
It was only okay, maybe I would even go so far as to say: bland - nothing to write home about (like Sevan G&G Cafe's delicious hummus).

The first course were tiny prosciutto, cheese, and apple paninis. These were very good. They were served with a shot of tomato basil soup. Presentation was beautiful - this sandwich was beautiful. The side salad with a balsamic drizzle was even tasty!

The second course was the house made ravioli served with tomato sauce and pesto. The menu didn't say anything about the ravioli being served with shrimp, so we were surprised when the plates came out piled high with shrimp that only rated mediocre on the seafood scale. The ravioli were also a little tough. This dish was disappointing.

Dessert was an apple tart knock off. By the time we got to dessert, I was done photographing for the evening. Things started out well, but went downhill for us. Don't get me wrong, the servers were great and the concept is neat. Where else can you get a multi-coursed dinner for $15?
I wouldn't go back, but I'm glad I have the experience tucked under my belt.
