When Jas came home from work and told me Strong's had closed, I was a wee bit mournful. Strong's had a stout margarita, a nice burger....and not enough business, I guess.

So in the grand tradition of things these days, Nick and Sam's bought up the joint and turned it in to Nick & Sam's Grill...a slightly cheaper menu than the mother ship. Everything is $20 or less. They have a great wine list with specials.

Well...it just so happened that it was the birthday of our good friend P. We called up P and his lovely wife K and we took off for this new hot spot...scooping a joint that, at the time, wasn't even covered by my D Bible.

P had a burger - good.
K had the BLT with avocado and shrimp. She wondered where the avocado was, but I think she mainly liked it.
Among us we split hummus and pita. Decent.
We also split sweet potato fries...heavenly. Just like a delicious little funnel cake.
We split mac and cheese...passable, but nowhere near the real Nick & Sam status dish.
I had the grown up grilled cheese with pears and ham and a side salad - can't complain. It was good.

And to add to the festivities, I enjoyed a white chocolate martini..or two.

I would definitely give this little joint a try. It's fun.
I think it is destined for success!!

Matt and I went to Nick and Sam’s Grill on Friday night with a group of 14 of his law school friends. The restaurant is in the place where Strong’s used to be. The biggest change is that everything at Strong’s was white wood, and now it is painted black- much darker like the big Nick and Sam’s. The place was PACKED! We waited two hours and even then, our group of 14 had to be split up into four different tables. When you are first seated, they bring out warm potato chips that are delicious! That helped since we were starving by the time that we got seated. I ordered the mashed potatoes and the mac and cheese (are you noticing a trend, here??). The mashed potatoes were really good- very creamy. The mac (while it looks delicious in the pic.) was a let down. The bread crumb topping was good, but other than that it was very bland. Matt and A. both ordered the salmon and both said that it was really good. E. ordered some type of soup. At the end of the evening, his bowl was empty to I am assuming that he liked it- totally forgot to ask. For four people with alcohol, the bill was under 80.00. For a dinner in Dallas, that is pretty good! I would recommend this place after the “newness” wares off.

We got the hummus and calamari for appetizers as well. The hummus was not our favorite, and the calamari was so-so. I would just stick with the chips!
